While it has now confirmed that its next-generation console, “Nintendo Switch 2,” will be on store shelves in 2025, this is its first major update since one of the most successful consoles ever came out in 2017.
In a teaser video, Nintendo introduced the “Nintendo Switch 2” combining familiar and new features but keeping many details under wraps. More will be revealed in a dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. The video hinted at a new “Mario Kart” game, confirming new titles for the console. The release date, price, and complete launch lineup are not yet known.
However, Nintendo has also made it clear that not all games available on Switch will work perfectly on the new console, which means some backward compatibility limitations.
A Worldwide Experience Tour
Nintendo announced the “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience”, a worldwide tour where fans will have hands-on time with the console before it launches. Events include the following major cities:

What’s Next?
The original Nintendo Switch did change the face of gaming with its hybrid design, letting it transition seamlessly between being a handheld and a docked console.
